short bio

Date of birth: 13/07/1994
Affiliation: Department of Physics, University of Calabria, Rende (CS), Italy
Nationality: ITALIAN

Giuseppe Ciardullo is a third-year PhD student in Physics in the University of Calabria, currently working on the research project “Cambiamento climatico e accelerazione di eventi estremi nel bacino del Mediterraneo”, helping to drive innovations on atmospheric extreme events by processing satellite remote sensed data from polar and geostationary missions.
Project is based on the application of spatio-temporal and observational analyses to case studies of cyclonic events, both tropical and tropical-like (Hurricanes and Medicanes), exploiting the diagnostics from some atmospheric quantities (temperature, pressure) and the turbulence structure using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique.
The project included an abroad period of research activity in the Muller Group of the ‘Institute of Science and Technology Austria’, focused on the understanding of the role of the rain evaporation in the development of deep clouds and cyclonic storms.
All these studies are currently emphasized by three scientific publications, and three new manuscript submissions.
Throughout his academic career, Giuseppe reached a Bachelor Graduation in Physics, and a Master Graduation in Physics of Atmosphere, Climatology and Meteorology, always following the main topic of remote sensing of depressionary systems and extreme events.
